Wikis, Blogs, Podcasts Study Group for Middle School Parents:
At our December parent education event at Mellowes Hall, several middle school parents expressed an interest in participating in some type of education opportunity to learn more about wikis, blogs, podcasts, and other software tools that are often referred to as, Web 2.0. These tools also have some great potential for both personal and professional use by parents. In this mini-course youll have the opportunity to do the following kinds of things: create a blog, subscribe to podcasts, link up with other parents and teachers around the country via skype, take a look at professional online networking (eg-Linkedin), read articles and watch video clips relating to the digital generation, participate in online discussions, and perhaps even read Daniel Pinks book, A Whole New Mind. There is an outside chance that we may participate in this experience with a group of parents from North Shore Country Day School through the use of a virtual learning environment software program called, Moodle. Well have 2-3 face to face meetings with periodic homework assignments and projects to complete in between our meetings (dont worry-you will not be graded!) You do not need any special skills to participate in this learning opportunity; computer surfing skills and an interest in learning more about these tools are the only prerequisites. If you are interested in joining this study group, please sign up by visiting the link at the following web address: http://mstechnology.wikispaces.com/Parent+Ed. When you arrive at the web page, click the Edit this Page button and leave your name and grade level(s) of your son/daughter. Well determine our first meeting time/place after we have a better idea of how many parents will participate. Please contact Matt Montagne at mmontagne@usmk12.org or 414-540-3247 for further information.
